It all begins with the wood

Mesquite wood from the Sonoran Desert is considered a premium firewood that produces a superior quality fire.

It brings out the coffee’s flavor

This wood is a dense hardwood with high heat quality and a longer burn time. This type of heat helps bring out the very best in our coffee beans.

It Respects Nature

Here at HUUPA®, we only use wood from naturally dried trees. We like to think we give mesquite a second life. Because of its quality, we discovered that very little wood is needed to roast our beans.

It´s Authentic

Firewood keeps our culinary traditions alive. Before electricity, before gas, there was firewood. And as the desert communities of Sonora say: mesquite has a soul.

Only organic beans from Mexico’s finest coffee-growing mountains

For us, it’s essential to use the right beans to create a unique transformation when they are roasted with our mesquite wood.

We carefully seek out and nurture relationships with small coffee growers from the mountains of southern Mexico. They carry the mastery and tradition passed down through generations.

From them, we learned which beans are best suited to be transformed with mesquite wood, giving them that distinctly HUUPA® flavor.

We discovered how remarkable beans grown in nano and micro lots — carefully cultivated in places like Amatenango de la Frontera and Atitlán — produce coffees of exceptional quality and international recognition.

In the coffee-growing regions of Veracruz, we draw on the expertise of local producers to naturally and responsibly remove the caffeine, creating a decaffeinated coffee with body and rich flavor.

From each of them we learned their ways of working in harmony with nature, just as we learned to respect the legendary mesquite wood.

Finally, the roast that makes the magic happen

It took time to find the right beans and the perfect mesquite wood to create something truly special. Not all firewood is the same, and not all mesquite wood is alike. There are levels. Discovering them became our obsession.

Our mission became transforming these elements of nature into something different, with a unique flavor. We dedicated time, care, and passion to finding the roasting process that best brings out the qualities of the coffee.

Roasting coffee over mesquite wood from Sonora allows us to precisely control the intensity of the heat and the duration of the beans’ exposure to the fire. The result? Coffee beans transformed by this powerful fire into a cup richer in aromas, textures, and flavor.

Enjoy your coffee moment.
